About Chapman University

Chapman University is a private, nonprofit university located in Orange, which is a city in the US state of California, in Orange County, located approximately 3 miles north of the county seat - Santa Ana. During the 2000 census, Orange's population was estimated at a number of more than 128 000 inhabitants.

Chapman was established in 1861 as Hesperian College and adopted its current name in 1943, after, in 1920, the assets of Hesperian College were absorbed by California Christian College, being named after the chairman of its board of trustees (and primary benefactor), C.C. Chapman. It currently offers its students 46 undergraduate and 17 graduate majors, including pre-med, pre-law and communication programs.

Athletics
